Over the past several years, two-time Emmy Award winning Executive Producer Jim Rapsas has been active in both the scripted and non-scripted sides of television entertainment, writing and selling scripts to studios and production companies, as well as developing and producing documentary and reality series.
Recently, Jim was the Supervising Producer of the AMC documentary series Eli Roth’s History of Horror. Previously he developed and was Supervising Producer of Robert Kirkman’s Secret History of Comics, produced by the creator of The Walking Dead Robert Kirkman and his company Skybound Entertainment. He also developed the AMC documentary series James Cameron’s Story of Sci-Fi for Left/Right Entertainment and James Cameron. He has also served as a Writer and Producer for Stephen David Entertainment on the scripted/documentary hybrid series Making of the Mob for AMC, American Genius for National Geographic Channel and the AMC series The American West with Executive Producer Robert Redford.
On the scripted side, Jim is the creator of the one-hour series Sparrow which was purchased by Fox Television Studios. He also had his one-hour pilot The Dorothy Conspiracy optioned by Entertainment One and sold a pilot script to Freeform for the teen zombie series Generation Dead.
Jim created, wrote and executive produced the sci-fi mystery series Strange Days at Blake Holsey High. The show aired on NBC receiving several series and writing Emmy nominations over its four-season run.
Jim was also the Executive Producer of several reality series for Lifetime including Roseanne’s Nuts with Roseanne Barr, America’s Most Wanted with John Walsh, America’s Supernanny andRoyal Wedding of a Lifetime.
For Spectrum Productions, Jim was the Writer and Executive Producer on the Animal Planet special Gorillas on the Brinkwith actress Natalie Portman, the special Saving A Species: The Great Penguin Rescuehosted by actor Elijah Wood and the syndicated series Jack Hanna’s Into the Wild.
As VP, Development and Production at Discovery Communications, Jim oversaw numerous original and Emmy-nominated productions for the Discovery Kids Channel, The Discovery Channel and The Learning Channel. His expertise in creating original programming for kids is evidenced by the more than 40 Emmy nominations Discovery Kids received during his tenure.
His notable development and Executive Producer credits at Discovery Kids include the live-action series Darcy’s Wild Life, Flight 29 Down, and Scout’s Safari. He also developed and produced the reality series Truth or Scarestarring Michelle Trachtenberg, Endurance,and Trading Spaces: Boys vs. Girls, as well as the animated series Kenny the Shark, Time Warp Trioand Growing Up Creepie,and the preschool series Toddworldand Jim Henson’sAnimal Jam.
